Longliners may be released start of June

Thu May 31 11:59:45 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Juliarth" and "Louis ELlie II" which have been detained for nearly a week in the port of Vilanova by the Spanish authorities, may be released by the end of the week when the second deposit has been paid. Both ships had been intercepted by the Guardia Civil while the "Juliarth" towed the "Louis Elie II" to Grau-du-Roi following an engine failure. The shipowners were being pursued for illegal towing of a fishing vessel in Spanish territorial waters. The first deposits paid amounted to 30,000 Euros for the "Juliarth", and 6,000 Euros for the "Louis Elie II". The fishermen stated they had all the permissions to do so. Since the seizure several support meetings have been organized by their colleagues from the port, who believed that the Spanish government was especially zealous. The French fisheries director said he had sensitized his Spanish counterpart on this dispute. Broken down trawler seized

Mon May 28 22:00:18 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Louis Elie II" and the "Juliarth", two trawlers of Grau-du-Roi, have been arrested by the Spanish authorities. They were accused of illegal towing in Spanish waters. The " Louis Elie II" with a crew of five had left the port t catch bluefin tuna. Before leaving the port, it was controlled by the administration and found suiting to national and European regulations. On May 20, 2018, the ship broke down between Spain and the Balearic Islands. The "Juliarth" started to tow it to the port of Ametlla de Mar, south of Tarragona. On May 24, both ships were boarded by the Guardia Civil and forced to dock in the port of Vilanova, south of Barcelona. On May 25, the "Juliarth" was prosecuted for "illegal towing of a fishing vessel in Spanish territorial waters". The price of the deposit was 30.000 euros for the "Juliarth", 6.000 Euros for the "Louis Elie II". Both ships remained berthed in the port of Vulanova by May 28.
