Cruise ship rescued 27 refugees
On April 21, 2024, on the first full day of her current cruise, the 'Carnival Paradise' rescued 27 refugees from Cuba west of the island nation en route to Roatan, Honduras. All of them were brought safely aboard the ship and provided with emergency care, while official authorities were notified regarding the next steps. At approximately 2:30 p.m. the bridge crew spotted a small boat signaling for assistance. The cruise ship immediately turned to render aid, bringing aboard 27 Cuban nationals from the overcrowded boat approximately 20 miles southeast of Los Cajuelos. The small wooden boat was in poor condition, with a makeshift sail. The US Coast Guard Sector Key West was notified, as were Roatan officials. The refugees were to be turned over to authorities as soon as possible, as is standard procedure with these incidents. Because Carnival Paradise was on a scheduled day at sea, the time spent with the rescue operation will not significantly impact the ship’s itinerary. The 'Carnival Paradise' had left the port of Tampa, Florida, on April 20, for the 5-night Western Caribbean sailing. After visiting Roatan on April 22, the ship was scheduled to visit Cozumel, Mexico on April 23 before another day at sea. The cruise will end in Tampa on April 25. At this time, there were no expected changes or delays to the ship’s itinerary or overall schedule. Cruise ship rescued Cubans from makeshift boat
For the second time in less than a month, the 'Carnival Paradise' on Aug 21 has come to the rescue of six Cuban refugees from a makeshift boat. The cruise ship stopped and then a boat made of styrofoam and plywood drifted to the side of the ship. The six were taken aboard the cruise ship and then transferred to a small boat with Mexican officials on board as they approached the port in Cancun. Cruisings in 2023 cancelled due to dry docking
Carnival Cruise Line notified passengers on Aug 4 that their October 2023 cruises aboard the 'Carnival Paradise' have been canceled due to the need for the ship to enter dry dock. The impacted guests were being offered compensation options. Cruises from Oct 8 through Oct 26, 2023 aboard the ship have been canceled: “In our continuous efforts to enhance our product, Carnival Paradise has now been scheduled for dry dock. As a result, we’re sorry to inform you that your reservation has now been canceled.” The canceled cruises are a series of 4-5 night Western Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries, all departing from the Fantasy-class vessel’s homeport of Tampa, Florida. In total, five sailings are now canceled. The 'Carnival Paradise' will resume sailing for the planned Oct 30, 2023 departure, a 6-night Western Caribbean sailing calling on Key West, Florida; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and George Town, Grand Cayman. Guests whose reservations were now canceled can choose to rebook on a comparable sailing at a different date, or even on a different vessel if they prefer. The new booking will carry price protection from the original fare if guests opt for similar accommodations and a sailing that does not exceed the length of the original cruise.
