Ferry assisted in rescue of distressed canoeists
The Mallaig RNLI boat was launched after group of canoeists got in trouble in the Loch Nevis on Aug 21, 2023, shortly after 5 p.m. Coastguard dispatchers had received reports of the struggling in storm-like weather conditions with strong wind and rain. Three people were pulled out of the water by the RHIB, whilethe Mallaig RNLI rescued another two. A Yboat retrieved the three other people from the shore. All eight in the group were taken to the Mallaig RNLI station where they were warmed up and returned to Mallaig Harbour where they were left in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. The Mallaig RNLI returned to the scene to retrieve all the equipment in the water. The CalMac ferry provided observation from their bridge to assist in the rescue. The 'Coruisk' was then stood down and resumed the voyaGE to Armadale: the kayakers WERE transported to Mallaig harbour for medical attention by the Scottish Ambulance Service.
