Medevac off Newport

A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated an ill woman off the "Grand Princess" transiting 55 miles southwest of Newport in the morning of Sep 29, 2018. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 13th District Command Center in Seattle received a phone call from the navigator of the cruise ship at 6:55 a.m. reporting the passengers medical issue. An aircrew from Air Facility Newport was immediately directed to launch to provide assistance. An aircrew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport arrived on scene with the cruise ship Grand Princess at 8:40 a.m. and evacuated a 77-year-old female suffering symptoms related to a stroke before transferring her to a Life Flight aircrew in Newport. The Life Flight aircrew transferred the patient to Legacy Emmanuel Hospital in Portland.

Medevac near Yaquina Bay

A Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a female suffering from a head injury aboard the "Grand Princess" near Yaquina Bay, in the morning of Sep 2, 2018. Coast Guard Sector Columbia River Command Center watchstanders initially received the request for assistance fromthe cruise ship at 5 a.m. The cruise ship began transiting toward Yaquina Bay, so Coast Guard Sector North Bend Command Center watchstanders took over control as the Search and Rescue Mission Coordinators. The North Bend personnel dispatched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew o fthe Coast Guard Air Facility Newport to meet the cruise ship, which was approximately 35 nautical miles off of Yaquina Bay when the medevac occurred. The aircrew hoisted the individual and transported her to awaiting Emergency Medical Service personnel in Newport. At 7:15 a.m., the helicopter crew transported the injured woman to the EMS personnel on shore.

A US Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a woman suffering from kidney failure while aboard the "Grand Princess" 50 miles southwest of Coos Bay, on Aug 13, 2018.
