Wed Jun 20 20:42:53 CEST 2018 Timsen

Afte the "HTK Energy" ran aground in Sarangani Bay, General Santos City, the assistant superintendent of the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape, said that substantial damages on artificial reefs installed near the shores of Barangay Dadiangas South was found as a result of the grounding of the vessel. Local authorities found that around 100 artificial reef domes were damaged, which could amount to around $13,000. They will immediately recommend the convening of the Sarangani Bay's Protected Area Management Board to further assess the damages and impose possible sanctions against the vessel. The board will determine whether there is a need to temporarily detain the vessel pending the resolution of the case. The vessel was supposed to dock at the Makar port when it hit the artificial reefs.
