Grounded ferry evacuated

The "Titian Nusantara" ran aground in bad weather in the waters of Bakauheni harbour in the morning of May 23, 2018, near the island of Kandang Balak, South Lampung, about 1.5 miles south of the port of Bakauheni. The "Titian Nusantara" had departed from dock 2 in Bakauheni bound to Merak at 04.38 a.m. The ship was caught by the current and ran aground near Balawown Cage. All 111 passengers, aming them three children, were evacuated by a tug and taken to port by the "Dharma Rucitra 1". The ferry was also carrying 17 vehicles, among them nine trucks, three buses, two pick ups and one private car. The ferry was later refloated and taken to Merak for inspections.
