Crew members in hunger strike

On May 7, 2020, 15 Romanian crew members entered a hunger strike aboard the 'Navigator of the Sea'. They have been stranded on the cruise ship for over two months and had not been allowed to get ashore during that time. With the hunger strike, the crew members want Royal Caribbean International to ensure that they can finally be brought home. They want to continue the hunger strike until there is a clear plan for their repatriation, Royal Caribbean was already working to bring several crew members home. The ship entered the port of Miami on May 10.

Navigator of the Seas first sailing canceled due to upgrade delays

Royal Caribbean announced today it has canceled the first sailing of Navigator of the Seas following a multi-million dollar upgrade, due to construction delays. In a statement to RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com, Royal Caribbean confirmed it has canceled the Sunday, February 24 sailing of Navigator of the Seas, which would have been the first sailing back for the ship. Royal Caribbean said the reason for the cancellation was due to, "poor weather conditions have affected the progress of the ship’s outer decks." "Although it is important to complete the ship on time, it is most important to ensure that we deliver 100 percent on our promise to provide the memorable experiences our guests enjoy with Royal Caribbean."

Royal Caribbean to refit Navigator of the Seas for US$115 million

Navigator of the Seas will feature Royal Caribbean International’s first-ever aqua coaster, a Caribbean-inspired pool area, the first standalone blow dry bar at sea, new dining venues and various other innovations following a US$115 million modernisation this winter. The vessel will be the third Royal Caribbean ship to be renovated as part of a US$1 billion ‘Royal Amplified’ programme , which will see 10 ships being modernised over a four-year period.
