Medevac off Argentine

Fri Apr 24 12:54:06 CEST 2020 Timsen

The Argentine Naval Prefecture medevaced a crew member of the 'Calvao' who was developing appendicitis, and transported him to the hospital for treatment on April 23, 2020. A helicopter took the man off more than 240 kilometers from the Argentine coast. The ship's captain had contacted the Air Station in the town of Comodoro Rivadavia to report that one of its crew, 24, a Peruvian national, had acute pain in the lower abdomen. After learning of the symptoms on the radio and concluding that it could be appendicitis, the authorities sent the helicopter with medical personnel to evacuate him. An airplane was also sent as logistical support. Upon reaching the vessel the helicopter descended a sanitary basket to hoist the crewman. Once on board, first aid was practiced while they started on the way back. Upon reaching land, the patient was immediately transferred by ambulance to the local hospital.

Fishing vessel crewmember airlifted to St. John’s

Thu May 10 09:09:21 CEST 2012 arnekiel

A crewmember aboard a Portugese fishing vessel on May 9., 2012 evening was transported to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s after a medical emergency was reported. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Halifax tasked a CH-149 Cormorant helicopter from Gander and a CC-130 Hercules aircraft from Greenwood, Nova Scotia to respond to the medical evacuation request from the F/V Calvao, located approximately 445 kilometres southeast of St. John’s. The Cormorant helicopter transported the crewmember to St. John’s. The United States Coast Guard made the request for JRCC to perform the medevac, due to the vessel’s close proximity to Canadian search and rescue assets.
