Wheelhouse recovered as hazard to navigation

Thu Aug 20 12:59:42 CEST 2015 Timsen

On Aug 19, 2015, the wheelhouse of the "Célacante" was recovered off Conquet as it presented a danger to Navigation in ten meters water depth. The insurer had been ordered to remedy this situation with a deadline of Sep 13. The Iroise Mer - TSM was tasked with the work and, after ten days of preparation, the trawler bridge which had a weight of four tons was deposited on the North Quay of the 5th port basin of Brest. The cleanup was continued by divers for two more days with removal of batteries, CO2 cylinders, fire extinguishers, coils and trawl nets, and possible driftgoods. The Iroise Marine Park then validated the end of the cleanup. Cleanup work on Célacante wreck has started

Thu Sep 18 11:48:18 CEST 2014 Timsen

On Sep 17, 2014, at 1.45 p.m. teams of the Plongeurs Démineurs de l´Atlantique (GPD Atlant) and the Centre d´expertise pratique de Lutte Antipollution (CEPPOL) as well as agents of the Parc Naturel Marin d'Iroise began work on the wreck of the "Célacante" in order to perform cleanup and securing it. The combination of calm weather and tidal coefficients meade conditions exceptionally favorable this week for the removal of all potentially polluting materials remaining on board. Following a dive by the GPD Atlantic on Sep 15, a specific list has been prepared and transmitted to the shipowner. This list included batteries, trawls, various electronic equipment and other debris. The operations, which also required the mobilization of the offshore vessel "Argonaute" were to last until Sep 21. Celacante to become part of marine park

Fri Sep 12 10:41:45 CEST 2014 Timsen

The "Celacante" could remain on the bottom of the marine park Iroise, near the lighthouse Pierres Noires. The proposed of owner Porcher appeared to have received a positive reception from the management of the marine park. The owner was pledging to make the wreck, which is lying on the bottom about 10 meters as smooth as possible which will require disassembling porch, walkway and reel, but also to clean up the wreck. In parallel, the marine park could receive compensation for the preservation and improvement of the ecosystem.
