Fishermen caught WW II mine
On April 23, 2020, the 'Grietje Corneilia - HD 42' fished a nearly 1,000 kilo German sea mine from WWII off the Dutch coast in the Northsea. The fishermen raised alarm, and the mine was taken off by diving vessel 'Argus' and was later destroyed in a safe location. All security services were immediately notified , and the mine was detonated at sea by he Maritime Explosives Ordnance Disposal Service (MEOD), part of the Royal Navy's mining service. The ship owner Frank Oosterman and skipper Simon Stengs were able to view it from a safe distance. The Navy used ten kilos of explosives to detonate it, which resulted in a plume of water up to fifty meters high. The mine contained 700 kilos of explosives. Fishing vessel grounded off Egmond aan Zee
On July 21, 2016, the "Grietje Cornelia - HD 42" ran aground just 50 meters off the coast of Egmond aan Zee with a crew of three on board. The KNRM lifeboat was alerted but failed to refloat the ship immediately due to the low water level. In the afternoon at 4.15 p.m., when the water was rising again, the towing wire was transferred onto the f/v "Op Hoop van Zegen" which succeeded to pull the "Grietje Cornelia" off around 5 p.m. In the evening the casualty vessel entered the port of Den Helder.
