Two tankers stopped by Iran in Strait of Hormuz

In the evening of July 19, 2019, the Iranian revolutionary Guards captured the "Stena Impero" in the Strait of Hormuz and forced it to divert to the Iranian coast. Short time later also the Liberian flagged tank m/v "Mesdar" of the British Norbulk Shipping UK, which was enroute to Ras Danura, was stopped, but released 3,5 hours later. The armed guards which had boarded the vessel left it, and the ship continued the voyage after the crew was informed about environmental rules in the Persian Gulf. The "Stena Impero" was captured for having turned off its AIS in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz thereby threatening approaching ship traffic, the Iranian news agnecy Tasnim reported. It was accused to have been in collision with a fishing boat and not having responded and for carrying materials which posed an environmental threat and which were to be investigated in Bandar Abbas now. The ship had on board a crew of 23, 18 of whom were Indians, including the master, and the remainder coming from the Philippines, Letland and Russia, when it was approached by small boats and a helicopter in international water and changed its course at 5.30 p.m. It was enroute from Fujaira to Al Djubail at that time and headed towards the Iranian island Keschm and dropped anchor at Bandar Abbas on July 20.

First supertanker docks at Vopak-Dialog Malaysia oil terminal

A supertanker carrying about 1 million barrels of Middle East crude docked on Monday, March 16, 2015 at a terminal jointly run by Vopak and Dialog Group in Malaysia, the companies said. The arrival of tanker MT Mesdar marked the start of operations at southeast Asia’s first commercial crude oil tank farm. Located in Pengerang, in the southern state of Johor, just across the Johor Strait from the Singapore trading hub, the site can hold 420,000 cubic metres of crude (2.6 million barrels) and also offers blending and distribution services.
