Disabled fish carrier towed to Mallaig

The "Migdale", enroute to Kinlochbervie, suffered an engine failure in the ound of Mull in pos. 56 41 18 N 006 13 48 W, on Nov 13, 2018. The unlosded vessel which had a crew of four on board anchored 8 cables from the shore. The Tobermory RNLI boat was tasked at 10.13 p.m. to standby the vessel by the Stornoway Coastguard until a tug arrived at the ship which was moored near the Ardnamurchan lighthouse. The Tobermory’s volunteer crew launched the ALB "Elizabeth Fairlie Ramsey" at 10.20 p.m. and made best speed in southerly winds gusting up to 45 knots or more than 50mph. The lifeboat stood by in seas of 3-4 metres until the arrival of the tug shortly after 2 a.m. With the fish carrier safely under tow and heading towards Mallaig, the volunteer crew returned to Tobermory where the lifeboat was made ready for service at 3.20 a.m. The tug "Annie E" arrived on site at 1.25 a.m. Towing started at 2.05 a.m. It arrived in port for repairs on Nov 14 at 8 a.m. Report with photo and video: https://rnli.org/news-and-media/2018/november/14/tobermory-rnli-in-five-hour-shout-in-rough-weather-to-40-metre-fish-carrier

Emergency tug ordered after fuel pump damage

The "Migdale" en route from Lerwick, with a crew of four and a cargo of live fish on board, reported a fuel pump malfunction and was drifting at 1,5 knots, in position 60 45 41.4 N, 000 12 21.0 W, on Aug 18, 2018, at 9.30 a.m. At 10 a.m. the emergency tug "Ievoli Black" was tasked to tow the vessel into Lerwick. The vessel was carrying 20,000 litres of marine diesel oil as bunker on board. On site were SW winds of 6-7 Beaufort with three metre swell. At 10.45 a.m. the tug was stood down, and the pump defect was rectified as of 11.20 a.m. All safety checks were completed, and the vessel was making way at 8,7 knots towards Hoganes.

Disabled trawler towed to Aith Voe

On Feb 24, 2018, the "Migdale", en route to Stromness sustained damage to its control rod connected to variable pitch propeller, at 5 a.m. in position 60 15 02.4N, 001 59 13.2W, approximately six nautical miles north-northeast of Foula Shetland. The ship had a crew of fourand was carrying 22500 litres of diesel oil, 1300 litres of lube oil and 760 metric tonnes of hydraulic oil as bunkers. The Aith RNLI all weather lifeboat "Alb" was tasked to assist the vessel tow to St. Magnus Bay, Shetland and the emergency tug "Ievoli Black" from Portree, Isle of Skye, was also tasked to proceed. The vessel was towed in waves of 4-5 meters to a sheltered anchorage in Aith Voe arriving at 1.24 p.m. A commercial tow was being arranged by the owners insurance company for the vessel to be taken to dry dock for repairs. Afer repairs the "Migdale" arrived at Oban on Apr 13 and sailed on Apr 14, bound to Oldany.
