Crew member with COVID 19 suspicion medevaced

Wed Apr 29 11:56:36 CEST 2020 Timsen

A man with suspicious symptoms of the new coronavirus was medevaced from the 'Ocean Dawn' in the middle of the Baja California Sea, by the Mexican Navy, about 63 kilometers south of Ensenada. The operation was carried out when the Second Naval Region received a distress alert from the General Command and Control Center of the Secretariat of Marine on April 26. The man had suspicious symptoms of coronavirus, such as severe headache and pressed chest. Therefore the "Marine Rescue Plan" was activated and the departure of a boat was ordered as well as the take-off of a helicopter with Naval Health personnel and a Search and Rescue swimmer from a helicopter, to medevac the man. Once the naval personnel had contact with the longliner, they placed the patient on a stretcher, gave first aid on board the aircraft and took him to the heliport of the Second Naval Region where an ambulance was waiting to transfer him to a local hospital for specialized medical attention. The man was transferred in an isolation capsule.

Sealord fined over $60,000 after man injured on vessel

Thu Nov 08 09:30:30 CET 2012 arnekiel

Nelson-based fishing company Sealord have been fined $63,400 and ordered to pay reparations of $12,500 in the Nelson District Court today after a fisherman working on board one of their vessels fell through a hatch, rupturing his spleen. On 2 October 2011, factory hand James Billingham was helping prepare the vessel Ocean Dawn for departure from Nelson. While attempting to remove the bungs under the hatch cover, he overbalanced and fell approximately five metres into the ship’s hold. http://business.scoop.co.nz/2012/11/08/sealord-fined-over-60000-after-man-injured-on-vessel/
