Grain transport from Ukraine delayed due to bad weather
The voyage of the 'Ocean Lion' with a cargo of grain on Aug 11 was delayed due to bad weather conditions. The deal brokered by the United Nations and Turkey between Russia and Ukraine has allowed 12 ships to depart from Ukraine’s Black Sea port since Aug. 1. The ship remained at anchor in the Sea of Marmara, near the southern end of the Bosphorus Strait after leaving Chronomorsk on Aug 7. Two other ships, the 'Sacura' and the 'Mustafa Necati', were anchored close by, while the 'Rahmi Yagci' was anchored on the northern end of the Bosphorus. Two empty cargo ships, the 'Fulmar S' and the 'Osprey S', arrived in Illichivsk on Aug 10 to collect grain after being inspected by a JCC team in Istanbul.
Next ships to leave Ukraine with grain products
On Aug 9, 2022, the 'Ocean Lion' has sailed from the port of Chornomorsk, destined for Incheon via Singapore, bringing the total to 12 ships to leave the Ukraine since a deal was brokered to resume grains shipment via a humanitarian maritime corridor out of the Black Sea. It was the largest to have left the Black Sea since the suspension of sailings, and was loaded with 65,000 metric tonnes of feed-grade corn. Another ship, the 'Rahmi Yagci', also left Chornomorsk carrying 5,300 metric tonnes of sunflower destined for Istanbul. More than 370,000 mt of agricultural products have been shipped out of the Ukraine since Aug 1. The 'Bonita' is expected to leave Pivdennyi port for South Korea. She is currently being loaded with 66,000 metric tonnes of food-grade corn after loading was suspended following the invasion. However, there were concerns about the quality of corn aboard the ship wich had been stuck for months without proper ventilation and exposed to the heat and humidity. There is a risk of being rejected as she was not loaded freshly recently. The aflatoxin content is an important specification requirement for corn arriving in South Korea. If it is over 20 ppb, it cannot be used for feed production.
Grounding on Paraná river
