Ferry suffered engine damage

The 'Saonisos', with 21 crew members, three passengers and one vehicle on board, suffered a damage to the port main engine, while sailing towards the port of Tilos, in the vicinity of pos. 36 38 46 N, 027 52 58 E, in the evening of Dec 21, 2023. The ferry returned to the port of Rhodes unassisted. The Central Port Authority of Rhodes prohibited the sailing of the ''Saonisos' until the engine was repaired and the certificate of seaworthiness from the recognized classification society that monitors the vessel was issued.

Allision in Agnontas Skopelos

The 'Saonisos' allided with the pier, while it was mooring at the port of Agnontas Skopelos in the morning of July 7, 2023. The vessel suffered distortions to the port side sheet metal guard. No injuries were reported. The vessel was performing its approved route from Glossa with nine passengers on board. The Port Authority of Skopelos, which conducted a preliminary investigation, prohibited the departure of the 'Saonisos', until the damage was repaired, and a class maintenance certificate was issued by the monitoring classification society of the vessel.

Engine trouble off Alexandroupolis

The Port Authority of Alexandroupolis was informed by the captain of the "Saonisos" in the afternoon of July 24 at 6 a.m. that during the scheduled service from Samothrace to Alexandroupolis there was an increase in exhaust temperature on the port side main engine when the ferry was southwest of the port of Alexandroupolis. She continued sailing with the starboard side main engine. Upon arrival at the port of Alexandroupolis, the 277 passengers were safely disembarked, and the relevant Port Authority detained the ship until the damage was repaired and a class certificate presented by the attending classification society. The scheduled sailing at 5 p.m. was cancelled, and affected passengers were carried on by the "Saos ΙΙ" in the evening.
