Two containers washed onto Yarakh Beach

Sun Aug 17 11:22:26 CEST 2014 Timsen

After the sinking of the "Sea Soul 1" with its cargo of guns and the arrest of the crew, two suspicious containers were discovered in the Tableau Ferraille at the beach Yarakh on Aug 16 at 6 p.m. The containers were discovered by residents, who opened the first box and noticed a powder inside. The Police was alerted at 7 p.m. and established a security zone. Fifty barrels with labels of flammable products were visible on the beach.

Crew sank own ship after weapon smuggle was detected

Fri Aug 15 10:21:05 CEST 2014 Timsen

40 containers with an arms shipment bound for Mali were lost off Goree on Aug 12, 2014, at 2 p.m. when the “Sea Soul 1” was deliberately sunk by its Egyptian crew of 15 about ten miles from the island in Senegales waters. The ship was carrying 40 containers loaded with 10,000 guns and 30 million cartridges. The Senegalese Navy on patrol off Almadies spotted the ship on Aug 8 and raised alarm. During a check the weapons were found. The Senegalese customs was alerted, but docking at the Port of Dakar was delayed, giving the crew the chance to scuttle the vessel which had left Iraq to transit Turkey before heading to Senegalese waters. Arrangements have been made to allow recovery of all the weapons and put them in a safe place. The crew was taken in custody at the Port Office. However, it was found out that two containers of the cargo disappeared before the sinking.
