The two missing crew members have not yet been found despite dive operations which were continued depending on the weather conditions. The water temperature was five degrees C. Among the deceased was Dogan Tuğbay, the second captain of the ship, aged 66 years and coming from İzmir. He was a retired marine petty officer and captain for 23 years. He worked as a second captain after his retirement in 1994 and has been captain between Marmaris and Rhodes for the last four years. Cargo ship sank off Misrata

Fri Mar 17 09:17:35 CET 2017 Timsen

The "Tinaztepe" sank on the Misurata anchorage in the afternoon Mar 16, 2017, at 11.51 a.m. being caught in rough weather. The vessel was moored 2,5 miles off the coast waiting to berth to offload its cargo of 3,120 tons of marble crust when it started to leak in the raging storm with wave heights of four meters, obviously being too old to withstand the forces. Six of the 13 Turkish crew members went missing, seven were rescued. The SAR operation of the Libyan Coastguard was going on. The rescued crew members were taken to a nearby hotel where they were undergoing health checkups. The operator Batu Shipping sent representatives to Libya to make sure there were no visa problems for the survivors. The ship had left from Marmara Island at 08:00 a.m. bound to Misurata.
