Rescue of yachtie in the Pacific
Enroute Geelong-Iwakuni the "White Kingdom" saved an American solo sailor aged 84 in the Pacific on Jan 4, 2012. He had tried to round the southern tip of South America for the seventh time, but had radioed distress calls after his mast had broken on Jan 3 about 850 kilometers south of the Easter Islands. The Chilean navy sent a search plan piloted the cargo vessel to the distressed yacht. The man was safely evacuated and is expected in Valparaiso on Jan 7.
