Zola lifeboat washed ashore at Al Aqah
A lifeboat washed ashore at Al Aqah beach in stormy weather, being registered to the "Zola" ,the last known position having been just off the Khor Fakkan coast and the current status being listed as “stopped”. Already on Sep 4, 2015, Ashraf Helmy, area general manager of the Miramar Al Aqah hotel was informed that a lifeboat was spotted drifting towards the beach by a German guest who was standing on the beach around 5.15 p.m. They called the coastguard and police because they were afraid that somebody would need help inside the lifeboat. The coastguard, police and an ambulance were at the site and waiting for the lifeboat to arrive. At 7.41 p.m., the coastguard and police were the first to inspect the vessel, but it was empty. They started inspecting it and eventually they removed all the equipment that could be misused, like lifesaving equipment such as torches, and left the boat in place. Hotel management now wants to use the boat as a tourist attraction, or possibly sink it for use as a diving attraction. The boat is 11.45 metres in length and 3.12 metres in height. It weighs 9.75 tonnes. Report with photos: http://www.thenational.ae/uae/20151008/mystery-lifeboat-washes-ashore-in-fujairah
