ALJALAA 9343338

Thu Feb 24 10:17:22 CET 2011 Timsen

Cleanup operations by Feb 23, 2011, were nearly complete after about 700 gallons of oil spilled into Long Beach Harbor when a tank of the "Al Jalaa" overflowed during a fueling operation during an internal transfer. Several waterways were shut down until Feb 22 evening while five boats were deployed to contain the mess. Crews have retrieved about 95 percent of the spilled oil so far. The cause of the spill is being investigated by the Coast Guard, state wildlife officials and local port authorities.

ALJALAA 9343338

Wed Feb 23 09:20:48 CET 2011 Timsen

USCG Los Angeles-Long Beach and California Fish and Game personnel are investigating the cause of an unintentional discharge of 710 gallons of diesel fuel oil from the "Aljalaa", during an internal transfer of diesel at Tesoro’s Terminal at Berth 84A in the Port of Long Beach, Feb 21, 2011, at approximately 7:30 p.m. The USCG, DFG, and the vessel's emergency response management company, O’Brien’s Response Management, established a Unified Command at the Tesoro Long Beach Terminal. Several oil spill response organizations responded to contain and to recover discharged product. Responders deployed 5,000 feet of containment boom around the affected areas. Vessel traffic is limited between the Commodore Heim and Gerald Desmond bridges at this time. Vessels transiting the area should contact the Coast Guard by radio on marine channel 16.
