Sunken trawler salvaged

Tue Aug 30 10:04:01 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Aug 28 the salvage of the "Angela Arcella - NA 2139" (IMO: 8688391) commenced. The capsized wreck has been righted recently, and part of the mast and superstructure t emerged. On Aug 29 the wreck was brought back to the surface by the "Utec Surveyor" and a sheerleg. The salvors of the Cassar shipyard, where the ship presumably also will be repaired, worked through the afternoon at Laboratory Wharf to resurface and dewater the ship. Salvage operation has commenced

Fri Aug 12 21:14:35 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Aug 12 salvage operations started to recover the sunken "Angela Arcella" which sank at its moorings at the Laboratory Wharf in Valletta. The first phase of the salvage operation started after Transport Malta held a technical meeting with those involved to approve the course of action. First, the salvors will turn the vessel back on its keel, followed by a diving survey which will then further assess the damage. Divers will temporarily repair the vessel before pumping out water and bringing it back to the surface. The salvors will then tow the vessel to a repair facility. With a port inspector on site at all times, Transport Malta will be monitoring the proceedings. Transport Malta will immediately recover any effluent that might be released from the wreck. The reason for the amount of time taken to carry out this operation was “to safeguard the structural integrity of the vessel. This process was only extended by the fact that the operation is taking place within the harbour. The salvors was to work around ongoing port operations. The vessel is expected to be resurfaced on Aug 14.
