Ferry started to submerge due to hull cracks

Sun Jul 08 21:10:49 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Annenkov" was at the cargo and passenger terminal in the port of Krym, Crimea, and unloading railroad wagons on July 8, 2018, when the cargo came crashing down and fell on the deck of the vessel. Subsequently the vessel sustained a sagging of the upper deck in the area of frame No. 164, as well as creases to the hull. There was also water ingress in the engine room. Containment booms were deployed around the vessel and a diving inspection was conducted. Ten torn holes in the area of frame No. 164 across the vessel's deck were detected. Temporary sealing of the holes was carried out and the water ingress decreased. The process of pumping out water was continuing.
