Repairs of grounding damage completed
The "Antares" which had caused extensive damage to 4,275 sq metres of the Lobos-Tuxpan flora & fauna reef system due to a grounding on Aug 14, 2017, which had arrived at Tampico on Dec 3 for repairs, sailed again on Apr 27, 2018.
Antares released and sent to repair
PROFEPA has released the "Antares" after a bail of more than 200 million Pesos has been deposited to guarantee the repair of damages caused by the vessel to the Tuxpan reef. The company Técnicas Marítimas Avanzadas SA de CV was able to obtain the release of its vessel and sent it to Tampico for repairs of the grounding damage on Dec 3. It berthed at the Dragados Offshore Mexico at 9.30 p.m.
Mexican company to pay for restoration of reef damaged in grounding
The Brasilian Procuraduría Federal de Protección al Ambiente (PROFEPA) has awarded the shipping company Técnicas Marítimas Avanzadas S.A de C.V. on Sep 8, 2017, to pay 210.641.191 pesos for the restoration of a coral reef and to deposit a security guarantee of 210,641 Mexican pesos after the "Antares"had run aground on the Arrecife-Tuxpan Reef on Aug 14 in position N 21 ° 01.79 W 097 ° 11.405 in a protected area before Veracruz. The vessel had destroyed 4.276 square meters of the reef with 164 colonies of eight coral species in the nature reserve. It was recovered one week later and taken to an anchorage five miles east of the port of Tuxpan where it remained under detention since Aug 22 with its crew of 21. The shipping company was given a deadline of 15 days to present a restoration program.
