Search for missing fisherman suspended

Thu Nov 19 09:18:39 CET 2015 Timsen

On Nov 17 at 6 p.m. the Maritime Prefect of the Atlantic decided to suspend the search operation for the missing crew member of the "Ar Louarn" regarding the absence of new information, and the SAR forces were stood down. At 3:15 p.m., a lifeless body was spotted by a fishing vessel which was participating in the search. A lifeboat brought the body back to the port of Cotinière.

Body of missing crew member recovered

Wed Nov 18 09:53:36 CET 2015 Timsen

One crew member of the "Ar Louarn" has been recovered dead off Cotinière (Saint-Pierre-d'Oléron) in the afternoon Nov 17. Another sailor was still missing. The search had been stopped at 6 p.m. when darkness fell. It seemed that the trawler had suffered a leak in the engine room and the crew has not had time to launch the ship's rescue boat before the trawler sank.

Search for missing fishermen

Tue Nov 17 11:24:09 CET 2015 Timsen

On Nov 17, 2015, at 2:13 a.m. the CROSS Etel was contacted by the National Fisheries Monitoring Centre in Etel relaying a phone call of the "Ar Louarn - MN 594494", 29,9 gt, reporting water ingress. The trawler with a crew of three on board was 25 kilometers off the port of Cotinière, Saint Pierre d'Oléron. At 2:15 a.m. the EPIRB was activated, confirming that the ship was sinking. CROSS Etel immediately started a Mayday Relay broadcast message to all vessels operating in the area. It dispatched a Dragon 33 helicopter of the civil security in Merignac, an army helicopter of the Cazaux Air Base, the lifeboat "SNS 070" of the SNSM-station La Cotinière and the "SNS 085" of the SNSM-station Verdon. Six fishing vessels operating in the area also joined the search for the crew. At 3:41, the f/v "Yann Devi" saved one of them who was healthy and sound. Two fishermen were still missing. At 6:43, a Falcon 50 patrol aircraft of the Navy took off from the naval air base of Lann Bihoue so that the civil security helicopter and air force could be released. The Falcon 50 reached the area at 7:14 a.m. At present, only debris was sighted floating on water while the search was continuing.
