Perpetrators boarded towed barge

While the 'BS Ayres' was towing the barge 'BS 27', (4506 gt, built 2010), two boats with six perpetrators were sighted approaching the barge in position 01 13N, 103 55E, in the Singapore Strait on July 26, 2020,, at 08.37 a.m. Two of the perpetrators were observed boarding the barge and left again after 20 minutes and left the incident area heading in a south-westerly direction. The 'BS Ayres' resumed its voyage to Singapore. It was found that some batteries had been stolen from the barge. The tug crew was safe and no assistance was required. A safety navigational broadcast was issued after the incident. The Republic of Singapore Navy, the Singapore Police Coast Guard and the Malaysian and Indonesian authorities were notified. The tug arrived at the Jurong Shipyard on July 28 at 2.45 p.m.
