23 migrants repatriated in two operations

Wed May 15 09:33:26 CEST 2024 Timsen

The US Coast Guard intercepted two separate boats packed with Cuban migrants trying to set foot in Florida aboard tiny vessels ill-suited for the high seas. The first boat was spotted about 12 miles south of the Marquesas Keys near Key West on May 10, 2024, with 15 Cubans on board. On May 12, authorities in Key West were tipped off by a good Samaritan that another boat with migrants was in the ocean about 26 miles south of Marathon. The Coast Guard Cutter 'Valiant' plucked eight Cubans from that boat and sent them home. The crew of the 'Paul Clark' repatriated 23 migrants to Cuba on May 14. Coast Guard Cutter interdicted suspect vessel

Fri Jan 21 09:47:56 CET 2022 Timsen

The 'Margaret Norvell' repatriated 19 Dominicans and returned one Haitian to the Dominican Republic on Jan 19, 2022, following the interdiction of an illegal voyage in Mona Passage waters near Puerto Rico. The interdiction was the result of ongoing local and federal multi-agency efforts in support of the Caribbean Border Interagency Group (CBIG). During a routine patrol in the night of Jan 16, the crew of a Customs and Border Protection CBP Marine Enforcement Aircraft detected a suspect vessel, approximately 25 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan diverted the Coast Guard Cutters 'Richard Dixon' and 'Valiant' to intercept the suspect vessel. Shortly thereafter, the 'Valiant' interdicted a 25-foot makeshift boat that was transporting the group of Dominicans and Haitian, who were safely embarked by the crew and later transferred to the cutter 'Margaret Norvell'.

54 migrants rescued at sea repatriated to Haiti

Thu Jun 18 10:29:28 CEST 2015 Timsen

The crew of the "Valiant" repatriated 54 Haitian migrants to Cap Haitien on June 16, 2015. While on patrol, a Caribbean Air & Marine Branch aircraft reported a suspicious sailing vessel south of St. John, Virgin Islands. A boatcrew from Coast Guard Station San Juan, Puerto Rico, arrived on scene and provided life jackets to the suspected migrants aboard the grossly overloaded vessel. The Coast Guard Cutter "Forward" arrived on scene and safely embarked 54 Haitian migrants before transferring them to the "Valiant" for repatriation. Two suspected smugglers were brought in for further investigation. Report with photos: http://www.uscgnews.com/go/doc/4007/2545298/
