Jigger in danger of sinking off Patagonia
In the morning Feb 1, 2018, the "Claudina" suffered a breakdown off the coasts of Puerto Deseado. The crew spent nine hours adrift after a diesel leakage in the engine room. The ship timewise was threatened to sink, but its crew managed to regain control. The crew, guided by Captain Marplatense Máximo Gomis, detected that the cargo hold had a fuel oil inlet that was contaminating part of the squid inside. The "Claudina" returned to Puerto Deseado escorted by the Argentine f/v "Espadarte" (IMO: 6727569), which was in the area, and berthed with a list to port, where some faults in the ship's structure were detected.
