Inquiry opened into grounding accident
The Karnataka Revenue Minister R. Ashok has ordered a statutory inquiry by the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner to go into the details of the grounding of the 'Coromondel Supporter IX'. The inquiry will look into the reasons for its drifting, why the crew did not obey orders from statutory authorities to sail to safer places, and who was responsible for the accident. Based on the inquiry report, suitable action will be initiated against the concerned. About 20 tons of diesel were in the tanks when the tug grounded on the Mulki Rocks and has been ordered to be removed immediately to avoid an environmental pollution.
