Tug hunting drifting barges on the Maas

Mon Feb 01 10:56:52 CET 2021 Timsen

On Jan 30, 2021, five barges went adrift on the Maas near Roermond around 2 p.m., after they broke loose from the Maasplas Lus van Linne in strong currents. They allided with a pillar of the Louis Raemaekers Bridge. Chunks were broken out, but inspections by Rijkswaterstaat showed that there was no structural damage. At around 3:50 p.m. the barges, which were loaded with stones and gravel, were secured again. They were found on different sections of the Maas. One was secured at the Linne lock, one at the railway bridge. The others were maneuvered back to Linne by the ‘Danique F‘. The train service between Roermond and Weert had been interrupted for a short time. Due to heavy rainfalls, the level of the Meuse had risen sharply in the past few days.
