Yacht crew saved by Döhle vessel

Mon May 30 11:14:29 CEST 2016 Timsen

The cargo vessel "Finesse" of the Peter Döhle Schifffahrts KG in Hamburg rescued the crew of two of the "Dante" which had collided with an unidentified cargo vessel early in the morning of May 28, 2016, about 45 miles west of Sein in the Bay of Biscay. At 4:38 a.m The CROSS Corsen was alerted by the British crew of the yacht which had suffered no injuries, but the damage on the boat required the evacuation from board after the unidentified cargo ship had moved on. The CROSS dispatched the SNSM lifeboat from Sein to take the sailboat in tow. The Mayday call was relayed messages to the vessels in the area. The "Finesse" evacuated the two boaties at 6:35 a.m. At 6:49, a Cayman SAR helicopter arrived on scene and airlifted the two castaways from the "Finesse" and transported them to the naval air base at Lanvéoc Poulmic where they arrived at 8:07 a.m. The 8,5 meter long yacht remained afloat and was towed to Sein by the lifeboat.
