Engine failure off Aarhus

Mon Feb 10 10:07:01 CET 2020 Timsen

On Feb 9, 2020, two of the four engines on the 'Express 4' failed while the ship was en route between Odden in Zeeland and Aarhus with a scheduled arrival in Aarhus at 4:30 p.m. The ferry needed assistance from tugs to get berthed in Aarhus after the hydraulic failure which was the cause of the breakdown. The 'Express 4' was back in operation on Feb 10 after repairs in Aarhus.

Repairs to be completed this week

Tue Oct 01 10:42:19 CEST 2019 Timsen

Workers of the Orskov Yard A/S were busy to get the 'Express 4' ready to return to operation on Oct 3. The largest and newest catamaran of the Mol Lines had hit the wharf in Sjællands Odde when it was turning into the ferry dock, suffering damage to the tip of the catamaran's starboard hull. After the ship sailed to the Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn, heavy rain on Sep 28 had made it difficult to inspect the damage and begin repairs. It was decided to move it to another berth. The ferry left the Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn after repairs on Oct 2 at 11.40 a.m. and reached Aarhus at 3 p.m. On Oct 4 at 10.30 a.m. it resumed its schedules sailings. It was not yet clear why the catamaran hit the quay at all.

Allision in Sjællands Odde

Thu Sep 26 18:46:20 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Express 4" allided with the quay in Sjællands Odde on Sep 26, 2019, short past noon, during the docking manoever. Pssengers fell over and porcelain flew off the shelves, but no one was injured in the accident. A technical research was started and the ferry sailings have been canceled for the rest of the day. The cancellations also hit Sep 27. A total of four double trips between Jutland and Zealand have been canceled, concerning the sailings from Aarhus at 07.45 a.m., 3.15 p.m. and 7 p.m. and the departure from Ebeltoft at 11.30 a.m. After experts assessed the damage, the ferry was allowed to sail with its own power to Aarhus, and then on to Frederikshavn, where it berthed at the Orskov Yard A/S in Frederikshavn around 9 p.m. for repairs to its starboard bow. The plan is that it would be operational again on Sep 29 at the latest. Danish report with photos: https://www.tv2ostjylland.dk/artikel/faerge-paasejler-kaj-alle-afgange-aflyses-resten-af-dagen
