Fire was declared extinguished early in the morning Aug 16, after three days of firefighting. Scale of damages unknown at present.

Update - Trawler FIN WHALE fire, Las Palmas

As of afternoon Aug 15, firefighting was still under way, firefighters cooling with water trawler’s hull and pumping foam into reefer hold, where some 1,400 tons of corrugated cardboard were stored. Fire believed to be caused by wielding works.

Russian trawler on fire at Puerto de la Luz (Las Palmas)

Fire erupted on board of Russian oceanic trawler FIN WHALE in the morning Aug 13 at Puerto de la Luz, Las Palmas, Canary Islands. Las Palmas fire engines were deployed, fire was taken under control but not yet extinguished. Corrugated package stored in a reefer hold inflamed, even after fire is extinguished, such package is known to be smoldering for quite some time, emitting a lot of smoke. Vessel is docked at Puerto de la Luz since last year, under repairs or in a lay-up. No injures, no pollution reported.
