Sun Oct 13 17:08:40 CEST 2019 Timsen

During an inspection on Oct 10, 2019 in the port of Bützfleth/Stade officers of the water police Stade remarked that the office of the 'Francesco Corrado' was gutted by a fire. Durin their investigations they found out that the fire had already been on Oct 6 while the ship was at anchor off Heliugoland and extinguished by the crew. The cause of the fire was a technical malfunction of the charging station of a VHF radio. The authorities had not been informed. An investigations was thus launched against the 52 year old, Bulgarian captain of the vessel. The ship was detained in port. In addition, violations of international marine environmental protection and ballast water conventions have been identified and prosecuted.
