Shrimper sank in Trouville

Fri Oct 21 11:08:06 CEST 2016 Timsen

On Oct 20, 2016, the “Ami de la Mer - CH736594”, 73 gt, which was moored on the quay of Trouville-sur-Mer (Calvados) sank for reasons still unknown. The ship started to list to port and capsized half an hour later at 11.50 a.m. Only the antennas showed above water. There was no one aboard at that time. The sinking caused a slight water pollution. An oil slick of 200 m2 was contained by booms. bsorbent booms and hydrophilic blotters were laid out to capture the diesel. The tanks could contain about one ton of fuel. Some debris was also drifting on the water. An anti-pollution plan has been set up by the firefighters from Touques and Lisieux who attended with a water rescue and an anti pollution team. AIn the evening, as the wreck re-emerged with the falling tide, the firefighters pumped out the water. Carpenters were on hand to check the condition of the hull. The ship was secured to the quay with ropes. On Oct 21, the shrimper was to be pulled into a dry dock to determine the reasons for the sinking. Two hours before, the owner was on his boat and had not noticed anything unusual.
