Fishing vessel grounded off Poum

The "La Renaissance" ran aground on the night of July 27, 2015, 12 miles west of Poum in the Nénéma Reef. The MRCC was alerted about the grounding on July 28 at 5 a.m. Three of the six fishermen on board were hoisted by a helicopter of the police in the mid-morning. An evaluation and response team (EEI) arrived on site in the afternoon. The owner contracted the tug "Pélican" with the salvage which arrived at the reef around 5 p.m. The ship was refloated in the second attempt around 6 p.m. with the support of the EEI, which was still on board the fishing vessel. The engine could be restarted, and the ship headed to Koumac, escorted by an RIB of the local SNSM.
