Sailings cancelled due to technical issues

Sun Oct 21 18:59:49 CEST 2018 Timsen

Both sailings of the "Galleons Passage" on Oct 21, 2018, have been cancelled due to technical issues. The ferry was scheduled to sail from Port of Spain at 6 a.m. and from Scarborough at 4 p.m. Due to inclement weather conditions, the technical team is still currently experiencing difficulty in getting across to Tobago to conduct investigations and address issues on board. Confirmed passengers for both sailings will be accommodated on the ferry "T&T Spirit" on the sailing on Oct 21 at 9:30 a.m. departing from Scarborough and 3 p.m. departing from Port of Spain.

Ferry has damaged propellers and transmission shafts

Tue Jul 03 12:45:18 CEST 2018 Timsen

After the "Doña Mercedes" of the Venezuelan shipping company Grand Cacique II was transferred to Trinidad Tobago flag and renoamed "Galleons Passage" in January 2018 due to financial difficulties, it has to be taken China for repairs of the damaged propellers and transmission shafts. The catamaran ferry had served the route Puerto La Cruz - Punta de Piedras - Puerto La Cruz since December 2016. During trials in China, its propellers were damaged, which caused a malfunction of the transmission shafts of the engine, as well as the aft tubes. Currently the ferry remained stuck in Santiago de Cuba where it berthed on May 27, 2018. The Schulte Marine Concept (SMC) which operates offices in China noted that the buyer was informed about a "high temperature" problem and about the fact the aft tubes and transmission shafts were not replaced. At the time of the SMC evaluation, the vessel was removed from the Venezuelan flag.
