Cattle carrier saved two castaways

Mon May 13 12:47:07 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Ganado Express" saved a father and his son who spent a terrifying night clinging to the wreck of their boat in dangerous waters after their catamaran capsized. The father, 49, and son, 15, were sailing in Darwin harbour in the morning of May 11, 2019, before their 16-ft vessel flipped over and broke apart, leaving the pair clinging onto what was left in a desperate attempt to stay alive. Police and Careflight services were contacted after a family member reported them missing at around 10 p.m. Night vision equipment was used as helicopters and police scoured the coastline in search of the missing sailors. They were rescued only the next morning at 8 a.m. after the ship's crew spotted the pair floating off the edge of the harbour. They were unharmed and required no medical attention.
