Open vent caused oil spill in Rendsburg
The vent of a bilge water tank which was not properly closed caused an oil spill from the "Grand" in the communal port of Rendsburg in the afternoon of June 13, 2012. The ship which had come from Aarhus was undergoing unloading operations, and to the same time ballast water was pumped in two tanks. A connecting vent to the bilge water tank was not completely closed so that ballast water was pressed unremarked into this tank until it overflowed, releasing its contents into the port now. About one cubic metre oiled water was spilt., not enough to be recoveed. The 2nd engineer, who was responsible, had to pay a safety fine. The ship was allowed to leave port again on June 14.
