Nine injured in allision

On June 6, 2016, at 6.30 p.m. the "Insel Hiddensee" suffered an engine failure enroute from Kloster to Schaprode via Neuendorf/Hiddensee during the docking manoever in Neuendorf. The switch from ahead to reverse failed, so that the ship slammed into the quay. On board were 130 passengers. Nine persons suffered slight injuries and were taken to Rügen with water taxis. One was taken to the Sana hospital in Bergen with an ambulance. The other passengers were transported back aboard the ferry "Vitte". The "Insewl Hiddensee" suffered dents at the bow and was sidelined in Neuendorf, also the quay was damaged. The police thought that a technical failure caused the accident. Once the investigations have been finished, the ship was to be transferred to the shipyard in Stralsund for repairs.
