Tug towed recovered narco-sub to port
The 'Insuíña de Randehe', guarded by the 'Rio Luna' (IMO: 9967811)) of the Guardia Civil, towed the recovered narco sub 'El Poseidón', which had sunk in the waters of the Arousa estuary to the port of Xufre, Arousa island, on March 14, 2023, short past 4 p.m. A fisherman had detected the boat in the morning of March 13 one kilometer off Vilaxoàn. The Civil Guard mobilized the Special Group for Underwater Activities of the Civil Guard (GEAS), which sent divers, but did not manage to enter the vessel because they could not open the hatch. They were also doing size measurements.The 'Poseidón' turned out to be a vessel similar to the one that appeared stranded in the Ría de Aldán at the end of 2019, the first narco-submarine to be detected on the Galician coast. It has a length of about 22 meters and inside, according to the first estimates, it has a capacity for about five tons of cocaine. Shortly after arriving at the port, work began to lift it with the cranes of the Island wharf in order to be able to thoroughly inspect the vessel. The main hypothesis is that those responsible for the semi-submersible managed to unload the drug that was inside it and, after completing the operation, chose to sink it deliberately. The authorities thought that the bathyscaphe may be related to the two gliders that appeared stranded in Ribeira (A Coruña) in February.
