Divers found 80 kilograms narcotics in Las Palmas

Thu Apr 28 10:10:48 CEST 2022 Timsen

On April 10, 2022, the Civil Guard of the Fiscal Detachment and the Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Puerto de la Luz in Las Palmas have found several packages of cocaine that were hidden in the submerged part of the hull of the 'Ionic Kibou', which had arrived in port at 5.15 a.m., having sailed from Paranagua on March 28 and was bound for Huelva with an ETA as of April 13. The bundles were located after a joint monitoring and surveillance of the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency in the port, the corresponding documentary analyzes were carried out on the ship in the port of Las Palmas. The first indications found by the agents of the Civil Guard of the Prosecution and Borders Section, led to a more exhaustive inspection, activating the GEAS of the Las Palmas Command. The specialist divers of the Civil Guard, after more than an hour of search, discovered some suspicious packages inside a grid, appreciating that the screws that held it had been manipulated. For this reason, the compartment was opened, and after cutting the cables that secured the strange cargo, the agents recovered two packages hidden in a compartment in the hull. Once extracted from the water, the appropriate checks were carried out, and the packages transferred to the offices of the Civil Guard of Puerto de la Luz, where they gave a positive test for narcotics such as cocaine, all weighing just over 80 kilograms, raw without wrapper or water. The corresponding police proceedings were carried out by the Tax Analysis and Investigation Unit, which were made available to the Court of Instruction of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Guard in conjunction with the substance, the agents continuing with the corresponding police investigations in order to clarify the destination and origin of the drug. The ship was cleared to sail the same evening at 11.10 p.m. Report with video: https://rtvc.es/descubren-80-kilos-de-cocaina-oculta-en-un-barco-en-el-puerto-de-la-luz/
