Collision after engine failure

Sat Aug 10 21:20:19 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Srikandi Nusantara" which had just sailed from the Penajam Paser Utara port (PPU) to the Kariangau ferry port, Balikpapan, on Aug 7, 2019, at 7.10 p.m., suffered an engine failure 10 minutes later in rough seas. The disabled ship drifted against the BG "Asia Perdana", a barge carrying 2703 tons coal and which was pulled by the tug "Asia Tirta 1603". Passengers panicked and donned on safety jackets, thought there was no damage to the ferry. The "Asia Tirta 1603" immediately took the KMP "Srikandi Nusantara" in tow to stop the drift. 30 minutes later, the KMP "Swarna Nalini" arrived and took on board the passengers. The "Srikandi Nusantara" docked at the ferry port of Kariangau at 9 p.m. and was unloaded. Then repairs to the main engine were started.
