Drugs found in hidden compartment

Wed Nov 01 11:05:42 CET 2017 Timsen

Four persons were arrested in Tauranga after they took a shipment of cocaine from a hidden compartment on the exterior of the hull of the "MAersk Antares" in the night of Oct 31, 2017. Customs and Police had investigated drug criminal ring for already five months and were expecting the drug shipment. An estimated 46 kilograms of cocaine, with a street value of around NZ$20 million ($450 per gram), was seized from an address in Tauranga early on Nov 1. The ship had arrived from Chile late on Oct 31, and the syndicate approached the vessel under the cover of darkness to take it to their home. Ship and crew obviously were not involved in drug trafficking, and the vessel left Tauranga on Nov 1, bound for Hongkong.
