Ferry slammed into quay at Esbjerg
On Nov 29, 2015, the "Menja" slammed several times into the breakwater of Esbjerg and nearly drifted into the "Sønderho" which was berthed there. The "Menja" first knocked into the pier of the inner jetty, and then against the eastern Pier before hitting a marker buoy. The ferry paused for an hour in open water, then the "Menja" again hit the marker buoy and had to return to sea again. The captain struggled for several hours before he finally was able to get the ferry berthed in the third attempt. The ship had sailed from Fanø at 6.50 p.m. There were about 30 passengers on board, but no one was hurt. The passengers were sitting in the Lounge in the meantime and waiting, while the captain had to sail back and forth for several hours in the fairway between Esbjerg and the Molevej. At 9.17 p.m. he succeeded in getting out of the tricky winds and got berthed so everyone could get safely ashore. The ship suffered only scratches and a dent on its ride.
