Dhow rescued and crew held as hostages freed
Somalia security forces have rescued the "Al Kausar" which had been hijacked by Somali pirates on April 1, 2017, but nine of the 11 crew members were missing. The hostages were believed to be held between the vicinity of Hobyo and Haradhere in central Somalia, having been taken ashore by the pirates. The "Al Kausar" was chartered by a Somali businessman and was carrying commercial goods. It en route from Dubai to Bosasso in Somalia, when it was hijacked in the vicinity of Socotra island. Soldiers of the Somali security forces have arrested 10 pirates who participated in the hijacking of the Indian dhow. The ten pirates were part of a group of 13 pirates who continued to hold nine crew members hostage. Security forces freed the remainder on Apr 12.
