Bridge collapsed into canal following allision
In the afternoon of Sep 26, 2018, the "Andamento", 1250 ts (ENI-No.: 06004233), enroute from Lelystad to Brake, allided with the the Paddepoelster bridge on the Van Starkenborgh Canal. The bridge broke off and partially collapsed into the water so that the waterway was blocked by the debris. An adjacent house has been damaged by the hard impact. The ship suffered considerable damage to the starboard side bow. The bridge is operated remotely by Rijkswaterstaat. It monitors the local situation with cameras from the Oostersluis. Collisions and near-collisions occured more frequently since remote bridges have been served. The barge had green light when it approached the bridge according to its skipper, but 100 meters ahead it suddenly closed. The bridge was removed during the night by a mobile crane in order to clear the fairway.
