Freighter beyond repair towed to Aliaga breakers
The "Aron", which had encountered a windlass failure and began drifting close to shore at Bodrum on Feb 8, 2013, after which the class status was withdrawn, was towed to Aliaga for scrap on Jan 31, 2018, after the repairs could not be completed at a shipyard in Tuzla due to expensive repair budget. The tug "Kurtkulagi" (MMSI: 271010441) was appointed to tow the vessel from Tuzla to Aliaga. The towage operation was expected to be completed on Feb 2. During the Canakkale strait passage, a Coastal Safety tug provided escort service for the vessel and strait traffic safety.
