Tanker has to be towed away after fire

The damage caused by the engine room fire and explosion abaord the "Piz La MArgna" was so severe that the ship will have to be towed to a rpair yard. On Apr 14 it became clear that the engines were effected in a way that the tanker would be unable to proceed with own power. The ship was moored at the lock in Enkirch in the Bernkastel-Wittlich district since the fire broke out. The ship traffic on the Mosel had been interrupted for three hours after the accident. Fire on tank barge on Moselle

On Apr 12, 2014, short past noon a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Piz La Margna" on the Moselle River, which was followed by an explosion. One crew member was critically injured, another suffered flue gas poisoning. After the ship was moored Close to the Enkirch lock, the first was taken to a hospital in Ludwigshafen, the other was hospitalized in Wittlich. The fire department was on scene with about 100 men. While the fire was extinguished within rather short time, the river was closed for ship traffic for three hours. The tanker was unable to proceed after the fire. The ship had been sailing river downstream towards Koblenz at the time of the accident.
