Damaged mast to be repaired in 2019

Wed Dec 12 12:19:13 CET 2018 Timsen

The communication mast of the "Purau", 247 gt (IMO-No.: 8600155), suffered a bend while the tug was pushing a vessel up to the wharf in Lyttelton on Nov 27, 2018. The "Purau" slipped sideways and along the vessel and while she was pushing, and the curvature of the bow of the vessel above Purau bent her mast. No-one was hurt. A temporary repair was done the next day and the vessel remained safe to operate. Port operations were not affected. A permanent repair was to be done in mid-to-late January 2019. The LPC has reported the matter to Maritime New Zealand and wasconducting a detailed internal investigation.
