Stuck in ice dangerously close to the shore, Japan sea

Sun Jan 27 13:07:11 CET 2013 odinfm

Jan 27 13 - Rough ice conditions in Tatarskiy Strait, Japan sea – Korean bulk carrier Rapier stuck in ice and drifted dangerously close to the coastline, at least three other vessels seem to be ice-trapped, too, see map http://www.news.odin.tc/index.php?page=view/article/102/Korean-bulk-carrier-Rapier-stuck-in-ice-dangerously-close-to-the-shore-Japan-sea. Bulk carrier Rapier is en route from Korea to Vanino. There are no icebreakers either in Vanino or Sovetskaya Gavan port to assist vessels in Tatarskiy Strait, only ice-classed tugs busy with moving vessels in ports. Last year vessels were stuck in ice for weeks.
